New York Fashion Week: Best Modest Street Style

Feb 24 2018by Kate Russell

We can always look to Fashion Weeks globally to provide some ultimate street style inspiration. New York FW street style is always ultra-cool, laid-back and this year seemed to give a particular nod to modest looks.

The Autumn/Winter ’18 New York attendees consisted of the elite in the fashion world. Editors, influencers and celebs united in their hoards to watch the hottest new trends for Fall rock the runways and provide the best outfit ideas for all fashionistas.

With so many looks to appreciate, our Modisme stylists selected some of their favourite outfits to grace the New York streets for the fashion season. From bold, block colour to double coats galore, these are some of the stand-out looks that grabbed our Mod stylist’s attention for fashion week.

This super casual look proves how a hoodie can be the ultimate in chic layering. Teamed with cropped, 70’s style flares in deep, rust orange, the huge hoodie and oversized coat ensure a warm and cosy, but ultra-stylish combo.

We love this contrast of spots and stripes, fashioned by Chloe Hill and captured by Vogue. By creatively layering a sheer polka dress over striped trousers and roll neck, this look says elegance, modesty and fashion-forward style. Plus, we love the flat, metallic mules to accessorise.

Annie Greenberg, Editor of Refinery29, arrived at the shows wearing a stand-out, burgundy vinyl trench. From head to toe, this look is effortless, but discreetly cries fashion expert. The trench is huge for the next two seasons and vinyl remains a strong player in the world of fashion. She pairs it with cropped, ripped boyfriend jeans and a three-piece combination of futuristic, metallic silver accessories.

Double jackets are a big up-coming trend and this look, pairing a cropped, denim jacket underneath a boxy, fur coat, encapsulates it perfectly.

This street style feels as if it’s walked straight out of Vogue itself. Sport luxe is enduring and layering these Nike sweatpants with thigh-high, white boots proves sportswear should not be left in the gym.

Another double jacket look, this street style pairs tailored, soft plaid blazer with a hot pink, puffer jacket, worn off the shoulder. The juxtaposition of the shape and structure of the jackets works perfectly, accompanied by a cute-as-a-button, miniature handbag.

We love this dishevelled, layered look from the New York streets. Shirts come in many shapes and sizes and this ultra-longline version, worn over a midi skirt, nails the look. Also, spot the dad trainers making a stylish appearance.

Finally, we had to include this super-chic, head-to-toe colour block look in fire engine red. All completely in one tone, tailored trousers, roll neck, court shoes and oversized, structured coat pull the outfit together, ensuring all eyes are on her.
