Top Modest Celebrity Bridal Gowns

Feb 13 2018by Kate Russell

With another royal wedding just around the corner, here at Modisme, your favourite online modest fashion shop, we wanted to take the chance to have a look at some beautiful bridal gowns.

This May, Prince Harry and fiancé, Meghan Markle will follow in Kate and Pippa’s footsteps and make their way down the aisle together. Meghan’s gown of choice will no doubt be kept the ultimate secret until its hotly anticipated reveal on the day, but she certainly has some beautiful inspiration from her soon to be sister-in-law’s.

As with many aspects of fashion at the moment, bridal gown trends have become increasingly modest of late. With Princess Kate’s high collar and the likes of super model, Miranda Kerr opting for extreme modesty, we decided to open up our bridal rolodex and take a look at some of the most beautiful celebrity gowns from history, that also happened to be overtly modest in design.

Let’s take a trip back and remember some of the most stunning bridal dresses chosen by these famous ladies.

Kate Middleton

Starting with a classic, we had to include the UK’s Princess, Kate Middleton. The duchess of Cambridge revolutionised bridal wear and encouraged a drastic transition from strapless to full, lace sleeved dresses. Designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, Kates dress was praised for its modesty, stunningly intricate lace and full princess-style skirt and train.

Audrey Hepburn

In 1954 fashion icon, Audrey Hepburn wed in Balmain. With a tiny, nipped in waist, Audrey choose a full skirt and long, voluminous, ruched-shoulder sleeves. Layering elbow-length, satin gloves over the sleeves gave her ultimate coverage and leader-board style points. Satin-covered buttons to the chin and a turned-up collar detail finished the look perfectly.

Miranda Kerr

Miranda wowed in a custom Dior Haute Couture gown, designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri (pictured), when she married fiancé and Snapchat founder, Evan Spiegel. Inspired by Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn, the stunning dress was a full ball gown with long straight-cut sleeves and high, rounded neckline. Fitting like a glove, Miranda looked the ultimate in modest sophistication.

Solange Knowles

When Solange Knowles, sister of Beyoncé and a singer in her own right, got married in 2014, she decided on a mid-day costume change. With one outfit an ivory jumpsuit, the other was this breathtakingly simple gown by Humberto Leon for Kenzo. With a floor-sweeping cape detail over the shoulder, Solange looked every inch the beautiful bride.

Pippa Middleton

We couldn’t mention Kate without Pippa. Bursting into the spotlight during her sister’s wedding to Prince William, Pippa Middleton married her own love in May 2017. Following suit with her sister’s modest style, Pippa chose shorter sleeves, but full, high neckline and lace by Giles Deacon. The fairytale-esque skirt was complete with a full train and layered with a simple veil.

Nicky Hilton

Paris Hilton’s sister opted for Valentino when she wed in 2015 at Kensington Palace. On the day she married her Rothschild heir fiancé, James, Nicky decided to remain super traditional and stunningly modest. With ultra-high, lace neck line, full length sleeves and circle-cut skirt, the hotel heir looked chic and stylish for her big day. Unfortunately, she battled with an extremely lengthy veil, which at one point was caught up, underneath her Bentley (just for a moment!).

Whether Meghan opts for slinky bias-cut, mermaid or princess ball gown, we can’t wait to see what the UK’s brand-new princess will be wearing to wed Prince Harry at, what is bound to be, one of the world’s most talked about royal weddings. Lace, silk or taffeta, the Hollywood actress turned royal family member will have all eyes on her at 2018’s wedding of the year.
